New escape attempt at IJzeren Man

dinsdag 10 januari 2023

Normally escape attempts are not announced, but this one certainly is! On Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 April 2023, the most notorious prisoners will attempt to break out of the prison ''De IJzeren Man'' during the 9th edition of the Breakout Run. Athletes who get locked up as criminals during the obstacle run will have the chance to escape via a challenging escape route full of obstacles. Cell blocks will open soon and criminals of all ages can register.

The Breakout Run is the ultimate obstacle run with more than 40 different obstacles. Swim through water, crawl through mud, climb over obstacles and don't get caught by one of the guards. At the Breakout Run, every obstacle is a new challenge. Participants who step into the shoes of criminals from registration experience a true escape experience that is enhanced by the construction of the event grounds and the actors who are indistinguishable from real prison guards.

''After previous successful editions, we are going to do everything in the coming months to put down a renewed course with even cooler obstacles. From registration to finish, we want participants to experience the real prison feeling,'' said Sietse van Oorschot, organizer of the Breakout Run.

The Family Run, the newest component, emphasizes that the Breakout Run is an event for young and old. Participants can breakout with the whole family on Sunday via a 2-km or 4-km long escape route. Like every year, inmates-to-be can again register for the 8 km or 14 km on Saturday and Sunday. The heavily guarded prison in Vught also has a section for juvenile offenders between the ages of 12 and 18. These Young Gangsters can get ready for a 8 km escape route that will lead them to freedom on Sunday.

The runners will start their route towards freedom on Saturday between 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. On Sunday, participants will start between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. After the inmates overcome the final obstacle, they will be rewarded with a unique medal as well as a drink. The event site - where there will be plenty of side activities throughout the day - is also open to spectators.
